The INTERCEPT® Poverty Story [so far]
Intercept Poverty was seeded from the opportunities and adventures of Intercept's founders Tanya and Ivon Lacy. Intercept is also known as InterceptExperience.com. These opportunities and adventures have come from the fruits of their business life. At it's core, Intercept is an education program or 'experience' that has been experienced in the main, by business leaders and their teams, since the mid 90's. It's purpose is to develop the inate gifts of leaders. The founders, both passionate travellers have together travelled to many countries. Much of this travel has been to impoverished places. Over the years, parts of Phillipines, Thailand, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina, India and more recenlty north and East Africa have inspired their work. These trips served to observe life and seek contacts and opportunities for Intercept to develop internationally. They would incorporate the stories and learnings and principles from these trips into their programs and work. In 1999, they made a goal to be in Brazil for the Millenium change over. As part of this trip, a trip to the Amazon was arranged. On this experience along the Amazon journey, Tanya and Ivon encountered an intriguing married couple. She was an Amazonian Indian woman, he the son of an English Missionary. This meeting would change the the course of their lives. This couple had adopted 5 street boys from Sao Paulo in Brazil and their act of love and generosity, imprinted the hearts of the founders who were considering a family together. On returning to Australia, Tanya and Ivon begun to investigate how to open their home to a child from overseas. As investigations went, each country they explored lead them to adopt their child from the incredibly ancient country Ethiopia. So, Ethiopia, in East Africa is where the Intercept Poverty story begins. In 2004, Ivon and Tanya met their son Adam. They collected him from the orphanage he was loved in, until his collection. What was striking to them was the contrast from having travelled through Dubai into Ethiopia. So close geographically, but so far in opporunity. Confronted with the impoverished conditions of parts of Ethiopia, they made a committment that while raising their new child they would return to Ethiopia and do what they could. There have been return trips since and this website is all about the projects and programs that Intercept Poverty is connected to and involved with. |
Sheep and Goats [Matthew 25:31- 46]
When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will be seated on the throne of His glory, and all nations will be gathered before Him. And He will seperate them from one another as a shepherd parts the sheep from the goats; and He will place the sheep at His right and the goats at His left. The King will then say to those at His right, 'Come, My Father's blessed ones inherit the kingdom that has been prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you entertained Me; naked, and you clothed Me; sick, and you looked after Me; in prison, and you visited Me.' "Then the righteous will answer Him, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and nourished You, or thirsty and provided You drink? When did we see You a stranger and entertain You , or naked and provided You with clothing? When did we see You ill or in prison and visited You? And the King will answer , 'I assure you, in so far as you did it to one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did it to Me'. Then will He say to those at His left, 'Begone from Me, accursed ones to the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry and you did not feed Me; thirsty and you gave Me no drink; I was a stranger and you did not entertain Me; naked and you failed to clothe Me; ill and in prison and you did not come to see Me.' Then will they too answer, 'Lord. when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison and did ot serve You? Then He will answer them, 'I assure you, in so far as you failed to do it to one of the least of these, you failed to do it to Me.' And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.' |
Our Purpose
Intercept® Poverty works for the benefit and 'look after' those in parts of the world with least exposure to opportunity for self reliance education. We develop Eternal Thinking and give time, resources, direct assistance, ideas, and support to education as well as contribution via resources and time to specific income producing projects which we call 'Eternal Enterprise' projects and programs. To ensure that people in most and least developed places are inspired by their involvement with Intercept Poverty.
Our Strength
Our visits to Ethiopia have taught us that poverty can be intercepted through the development of economic self reliance. Our focus on development of self reliance thinking is our strength. Our interactions with those we serve happen via partnership with local connections on the ground as well as by visits from Intercept Poverty team members from Australia, Malta and other countries. What we do impacts in three ways ; it gives: 1. A strong faith in the gifts God has given each person 2. A strong foundation that's sustainable for the recipient by referencing the Word of God as the guide for living and working 3. A strong foundation in replicable business models and systems that operate on the principles found in the Word of God This combination is what we call 'eternal thinking' and 'eternal enterprise'. |
Eternal Thinking, Eternal Enterprise
The Eternal Enterprise concept is a more sustainable way of thinking and doing. We have found that there is a new trend emerging in the way locals in third sectors relate to some Aid agencies, NGO's and Missionaries. The local thinking is to avoid dependence on this aid. A reluctance to take aid and a desire to learn and be given access to ideas rather than money or things. So, before we can remove the addiction to dependence on aid, [money and things] what we call Eternal Thinking needs to be set as a foundation. This Eternal Thinking must happen in two geopgraphies. In the hearts and minds of the recipients of the aid [least developed places] as well as the hearts and minds of those with the capacity to give the gift of new ways of thinking or self reliance education [most developed places]. 1. Thinking in Most Developed Places - Social Entrepreneurship If we in the most developed places of the world give up our addiction to 'giving people things and money' and give ideas and education, we strengthen our capacity to serve those we wish to serve. Our focus then comes onto developing solutions, intellectual property, concepts that can be taught to these people in ways they understand on topics that are relevant to them. This is social entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship that benefits the society, it root cause problems solves and is sustainable for the recipient. 2. Thinking in Least Developed Places - Micro-Franchising Then we must support those we wish to help to learn to think differently. To think about self sufficiency and self reliance. To do this takes a building up of the inner spirit and the physical and mental capacity to understand this is a different way of thinking. To take this to an economic self reliance model is a concept called micro-franchising. This can be introduced to entrepreneurs who wish to develop sustainable income generating solutions for themselves, their familiies and their communities. |
Educating it
| Educating 'Eternal Thinking' and 'Eternal Enterprise Thinking' needs volunteers. We take our existing Intercept concepts, and coach locals in Ethiopia. This is being done now on a small scale and will expand when more social entrepreneurs or friends of InterceptPoverty volunteer their time or their ideas or expertise. We are working with locals to develop our Intercept Centre for Eternal Enterprise. |
Doing it
Delivering our Eternal Thinking is all about having 'Eternal Enterprise Thinkers' or Social Entrepreneurs who are generous, spirit filled entrepreneurs from most developed nations - willing to share their ideas, projects, products and resources with least developed nations. From Australia to East Africa. The models of replicating or franchising a micro business on a micro scale is known as 'micro-franchising'. We aim to develop local third sector entrepreneurs who are based in Africa who can micro-franchise ideas, projects, products and provide for themselves in a productive way for their society and community to benefit. The Projects and Programs we term as 'eternal enterprise' incorporate Social Entrepreneurship which is the fuel behind many Micro-Franchises. |
